From The Express - 21/5/2014

A bullfight in Madrid had to be called off after three matadors were seriously injured.

The 12th fight of the San Isidro festival was stopped after two bullfighters were gored and a third tossed into the air.

A spokesperson for the Las Ventas ring said that it was the first time in 35 years of the controversial sport that a fight had been halted.

On of the bullfighters, David Mora, was being treated in a Madrid hospital today, but was said to be out of danger.

The other two are expected to be discharged later.

Every year, thousands of bulls are killed in fights around the world.

Attendance at Spanish bullfights has dropped by 40 per cent since 2008.
